Williston health officials say their office is receiving complaints that campers parked in the area releasing sewage onto the ground.

"While the Upper Missouri District Health Unit knows that the housing situation in the area is tight, we want to remind people it is illegal to dump their septic waste from their campers onto the ground," according to a press release issued Wednesday from the Upper Missouri District Health Unit.

“We have received several complaint calls in the last few weeks about camper sewage being released onto the ground” says Laurie Kok, environmental health practitioner. “Raw sewage can be a source of disease and needs to be taken care of properly.”

The health unit did not specifically say where alleged incidents took place.

"If you are living in a camper you need to take your camper to a RV dump station, call a local septic pumper or in more permanent cases file for a septic permit through the UMDHU office, 701-774-6400. You can find a link to a listing of RV dump stations on our Web site www.umdhu.org," according to the release.

" ignorance is in abundance, as witnessed by these comments, on BOTH sides. Quit finger pointing, and work together to "fix" the problem. "

" Although it is very disgusting that this type of thing happens, they are few and far between and everyone needs to calm down. I am sure that the City of Williston has taken care of those that are not obeying the laws or didn't know any better, and if they haven't this is a call out to infrastructure teams.

For those of you who have lived here forever, are uncomfortable with growht. Think about the peope who have built $$$ houses, live in a condo, drive a escalade, buy new boats, and whose home is worth more than it was 2 years ago, do not dog, the people doing the grunt work are making your life better ... yes there are areas to improve on, but with growth comes challenges. Give it a break, you haven't done this since the 80's! "

" I have nothing bad to say about this situation. Maybe the city needs to make it known to all campgrounds where sewage dumping is legal.
We have great citizens in Williston and unforatunately some of them are not being treated very nicely and that is really a shame. There's a rule that everyone should live by, "Treat others as you would have them treat you." Think before you speak and if you have nothing nice to say, then your opinion is probably best to be kept to yourself. The oilfield workers are no different than any of us and are trying to make a living too. It's a shame that housing is unavailable and at such a high cost for everyone in the community. "

" I'm not sure why you are putting "town" in quotes, sorry, but yes this is a town. It is a town full of people who care about their town, who help out and care for their family, friends, and neighbors. It is a quiet town with low-crime. People don't have to worry about being out alone, sending their children out to play, or having to fight traffic, and deal with stupid drivers. But now a lot of that has changed. Our town isn't the same anymore. Not all of the change is bad. But much of it isn't the change those of us who have lived here and have tried to make out town even better have envisioned. And when we hear about people who attempt to hurt our town, even through complete ignorance as with the raw sewage dumping (that IS complete ignorance), it's very frustrating. We are very proud of our town, and if you can't be then maybe you need to re-locate to a place where you can be. It's pretty important to take pride in the place you live. It makes your community even better. "

" Sorry, you have to be kidding me when you say they didn't know that dumping raw sewage was illegal. We don't mind that they want to work here but when they come into a community and direspect the people here by doing stupid stuff like this and you wonder why some people don't want you here. Go figure "

" How in the he-double hockey sticks can you not know better than to dump RAW SEWAGE on the ground????? Give me a break!! And you wonder why you aren't receiving a warm welcome? Sorry to tell you but, THAT'S WHY! Some of us who live here and have lived here see how some new-comers (not all) are treating our town. It's a 2-way street, Sorry. I welcome anyone who wants to come and live here, but you need to respect and follow the rules. Nowhere is it legal to dump raw sewage on the ground, especially within a town. Nowhere! How can anyone not know that? "

" For some of us who are made to live in this "town" because all we have ever known is to work our tails off in the "patchs" all over the world mistakes happen I know of one or two folks who really did not know better and have been delt with. We are not bad people but some of the nice folks from here make us feel unwelcome to your patch of heaven. "
