Her funeral is at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at the First Lutheran Church chapel.
The Rev. Ben Loven is officiating. Interment is at the Hillside Memory Gardens.
Ethel was born in Williams County on July 30, 1918, one of nine children born to Herman and Kathleen (Shue) Pankowski. She was raised on the farm in East Fork Township. She attended East Fork School and as a young girl helped around the farm. While in her teens, she made her way to Williston, where she waitressed at several local cafes.
On July 1, 1940, she married Palmer Theige in Epping. They made their home in Minneapolis, Portland, Ore., and Epping before settling in Williston. Ethel lost Palmer on March 3, 1976. During her life, Ethel enjoyed knitting and crocheting, playing pinochle with her card club, liked to travel and bowled in a couples league.
On Oct. 6, 1979, Ethel was united in marriage to Niels Brogger in Williston. They made their home in Williston until Niels' passing on Aug. 18, 1989.
Ethel belonged to the Women of the Moose and was as member of the Sons of Norway. She looked forward to coffee and lunch with friends and family and truly loved her grandkids.
She is survived by her son, Dale (Marlis) Theige, Williston; a grandson, Brian Theige, Williston; granddaughter, Melissa Theige, Fargo; great-granddaughter, Josie Theige, Williston; great-great-granddaughter, Symphony Jennings, Williston; a sister, Joyce (Tom) Wright, Corvallis; a brother, Harold (Gwen) Pankowski, Malden, Mass., and several nieces and nephews. Ethel was preceded in death by her brothers, Leo, Lloyd and Herbert Pankowski; sisters, Edith and Viola Pankowski and Lena Rheault, her two husbands and her parents.
