Minot State had a two-point deficit with 3:50 to play, but a key three-pointer from from Shari Hewson and six points in the final two minutes from Christine Miller led the Tetons home.
"I felt offensively we played a lot better today than we did yesterday (in the alumni game)," said WSC coach Tom Suelzle. "I think we attacked the basket a lot better today. We got a lot of nice looks at the basket, and I think that was much improved over yesterday's game. Defensively, we've got a long ways to go. I don't think we're in game shape yet."
Sophomores led the way for Williston State. Christine Miller led the Tetons with 20 points, and Abby Nasset and Jamie Njos had 13 points each. Six-foot-one freshman Hewson led the newcomers with 12 points, showing strong shooting range as well as being the tallest member of the team.
"I think we did really well on offense, but our defense definitely needs to be worked on," Njos said. The Tetons travel to Casper, Wyo., on Friday and Saturday, but they now have game action under their belts.
"It feels really good, I was tired of just practicing," Njos said.
