His funeral services are at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Grenora with the Rev. Ron Dahle and the Rev. Dana Lockhart officiating. Burial follows at the Skabo Lutheran Cemetery in rural Grenora.
Visitation is from 3-7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25, 2009, at the Stakston-Martin Funeral Home, Crosby and also one hour before the service at the church.
Tim Slaaen was born Dec. 10, 1965, in Crosby, the son of Richard and Cleo (Haugenoe) Slaaen. Tim went to grade school in Grenora and graduated from Williston High School in 1984. Tim went on to graduate from UND-Williston in 1986 with a degree in building construction and also graduated from the North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, with a degree in architectural drafting and estimating.
He was employed with the 5th Civil Engineering Squadron as a carpenter and was currently working for the Army Corps of Engineers as a construction inspection technician at the Minot Air Force Base. Tim is survived by his parents, Richard and Cleo Slaaen of Minot; two brothers, Steve (Joanne) Slaaen, Cadillac, Mich., and Scott (Tracey) Slaaen, Fargo; girlfriend, Brenda Stieg and her two sons, Paul and Alec and aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.
Preceding Tim in death were his grandparents, Torger and Esther Slaaen and Peter and Clara Haugenoe; cousin, Penny Haugenoe, as well as uncles and an aunt.
Tim enjoyed woodworking projects, riding his dirt bike and attending family gatherings. He was an exceptionally talented woodworking artist and took great pride in his work.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions can be made in Tim’s memory to the Skabo Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund or the charity of your choice.
Tim will be greatly missed.
