After receiving information to act upon, the Williston Police Department has arrested six juveniles for a string of vehicle break-ins and other vandalism to vehicles throughout the city.

Five of the juveniles were males 15 years of age and one juvenile was 13 years old.

The six individuals face a combined total of 52 counts of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, 52 counts of criminal mischief and five counts of possession of stolen property.

Det. Heather Cecil said three search warrants were executed over a period of a week and a half. Cecil said once the department had information and had one juvenile in custody, things began to develop.

“We received information from the public which is greatly appreciated,” said Cecil. Det. Mark Hanson echoed her statement, saying most crimes the department solves usually involves citizens who come forward and provide information.

“If it weren’t for the information we’d gotten from the public to nip this in the bud, this likely would still be going on,” said Hanson.

The charges against the six juveniles stem from a string of thefts that began May 12 until the second week of June involving unlocked vehicles. Over 70 vehicles were entered, with various electronic items, cash and miscellaneous valuables taken.

Hanson said the six juveniles are to appear before a juvenile supervisor sometime soon and their punishment and restitution is to be determined at that time.

Much of the stolen property has been recovered. People who had their vehicles entered and want to recover their items may Cecil at the Williston Police Department by calling 577-1212.

Callers are advised to have the serial number of the stolen item if possible, or at least a detailed description of the item or items to determine if your items are among those recovered so they can be claimed.

" Im very happy these kids were caught and i hope they get a very strict punishment. Its time to make an example for others to see what happens when they do this type of thing. I think to its time to change curfew to 9 pm for those under 14.. !0 for under 16 and Midnite for under 18...Then if the curfew is beoken maybe parents should set a nite in jail.. At least we will know where these children are if they follow curfew.

" I am glad those kids got caught, and hopefully they get what is coming to them. Mabey if they worked, they would understand just hard it is to get things in life, and then have somebody come steal from you is a terrible thing. I hope those kid's parents are proud of what they have taught there kids. Unbelievable "

" The mommies and daddies should be held just as reponsible for not being on the ball. It would be one thing if this was one incident, but this happened too many times over too long of a period of time for all these parents to not notice SOMETHING, if they are tuned in at all to what their kids are doing. "

" I think it is wonderful that these kids were caught.Hopefully they learn from it. My question is what time was all of this going on? Was it in the middle of night? If so, why were these kids out that late?! "

" Glad to see that the ones responsible for the break ins were caught. Too bad that the kids Mommys and Daddys will be footin the bill, not them. I say make them do community service, along with jail time. "

" I am so very glad that these careless kids have been caught as they broke into my vehicle and had money stolen out of it. I would hope that they don't get off with just probation because apparently they need to be punished a bit more than that. They should be ashamed of what they did and what problems they have caused so many citizens of Williston. Because of these kids, people haven't felt save in the community. I hope as well as many people in our community that you pay back all the money that you stole as well as return all the property you stole. "
