Five of the juveniles were males 15 years of age and one juvenile was 13 years old.
The six individuals face a combined total of 52 counts of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, 52 counts of criminal mischief and five counts of possession of stolen property.
Det. Heather Cecil said three search warrants were executed over a period of a week and a half. Cecil said once the department had information and had one juvenile in custody, things began to develop.
“We received information from the public which is greatly appreciated,” said Cecil. Det. Mark Hanson echoed her statement, saying most crimes the department solves usually involves citizens who come forward and provide information.
“If it weren’t for the information we’d gotten from the public to nip this in the bud, this likely would still be going on,” said Hanson.
The charges against the six juveniles stem from a string of thefts that began May 12 until the second week of June involving unlocked vehicles. Over 70 vehicles were entered, with various electronic items, cash and miscellaneous valuables taken.
Hanson said the six juveniles are to appear before a juvenile supervisor sometime soon and their punishment and restitution is to be determined at that time.
Much of the stolen property has been recovered. People who had their vehicles entered and want to recover their items may Cecil at the Williston Police Department by calling 577-1212.
Callers are advised to have the serial number of the stolen item if possible, or at least a detailed description of the item or items to determine if your items are among those recovered so they can be claimed.
